Athletic Policies It is an honor to represent AISC, not a right. This privilege may or may not be granted to prospective athletes.
1. Respect for all Coaches - Players should address their coach with a "yes or no Mr. John/Coach." Players in return will be treated with respect by their coaches. Whenever a coach is speaking with you, either individually or as a group, give him/her your undivided attention, and always establish eye contact with him/her.
2. Promptness - Always be on time. On trips, the bus will not wait. Tardiness will result in disciplinary action.
3. Dress - Should reflect a positive school/self image both in uniform and out. We will furnish equipment and be sure to take good care of it. Your equipment is as good, and usually better, as any other team. You are a team member, not an individual when wearing a Raptor uniform. Wear your uniform exactly as it is meant to be worn. Do not wear jewelry in practice or during the game/match/competition. On field trips, players are required to wear the team shirt or other designated clothing. Your appearance away from your sport, especially at school, should reflect the same class and pride that you show in our program.
For all athletes: ... no streaks or lines cut in the hair, such as names, numbers or symbols. ... do not do anything your hair or dress that will call attention to you, or anything that is not reasonable, or that would cause embarrassment to you, your teammates, your coaches or your school. The length of your hair will be at the coach's discretion.
4. Care of Equipment and Facilities - Uniforms are to be returned to coach after each home game to be washed and stored at school. During travel you are responsible for your uniform and must return it to the coach by the end of the tournament. Locker rooms are to be kept clean. Toilets are to be flushed, showers and faucets turned off so they don't drip, and all bottles in the trashcans. Clean up in and around your lockers each day. Do not leave uniforms, towels, etc. on the floor. If you wish to take a locker during your season you must coordinate with your coach before you place a lock on any locker.
5. Conduct - The Athletic Director and coaches at AISC have given a great deal of class and pride to our program. Don't do anything to take away from this. We are noted for our clean, tough, competitive play. Shake hands with your opponents before and after each game. We don't shoot off our mouths on or off the field or court. Praise the opponents and play beyond your ability. We expect you to conduct yourself as gentlemen and ladies at all times. This means that you are to follow rules and procedures while attending class at AISC. You are expected to act properly in class giving your teachers and administrators the courtesy and respect. We know that each of you do not have the same abilities, but we expect each of you to perform to the best of your ability.
Failure to adhere to the above conduct will result in a conference and possible disciplinary action. We demand a higher code of conduct with Raptor athletes than with the regular student body.
6. To be selected for a SAISA and to earn your varsity letter you must:
Complete the full season.
Attend at least 90% of practices.
Attend 100% of the scheduled games (if the student is absent from school on the day of a game, the AD may not allow them to play).
7. Academic Eligibility guidelines - athletes are expected to maintain a 2.0 or above overall average during the time they are trying out and are a member of a team. Athletes who are struggling academically (received a D or less) or students on Academic Probation must go onto an Athletic Contract that is established between the teachers, student/parent, coach/AD and administration. The conditions in the contract will be clearly laid out with specific terms.
8. Attendance - Class attendance is mandatory the day before and the day following any extracurricular activity. Participation in extra curricular activities in an additional responsibility that should not conflict with the students primary academic responsibilities.
9. Practices - Do not cut practice. Do not make appointments during practice time. 100% attendance is expected for all practices and games. Students must be in school on days of practices, games, trips and the day after returning from an athletic trip/tournament.
10. Injury or Illness - We have coaches who are trained in basic first aid. If you have an injury, see your coach or the Athletic Director. They will either administer first air or refer you to our school nurse. If you must leave school because of illness please notify your coach or the AD if you are unable to reach your coach. If you are ill or injured but able to attend practices or games you are expected to do so.
11. Hosting Requirements - When you are selected to participate on a team whether on a travel or local league team we require you to host 2 or more players in your home. If you are traveling to another school for competition you will be housed in a player's home so we expect you to reciprocate. In the event that you can not host you must find someone to host 2 athletes on your behalf.
12. Using, Selling, Dealing, Possessing, or Distributing Drugs, Alcohol and/or Tobacco (See AISC Substance Abuse Policy) - If an athlete violates the guidelines outlined the the policy, he/she will be dismissed from the team.
13. Profanity - will not be allowed. First offense will result in disciplinary action.
14. Stealing - taking things that do not belong to you especially taking from your teammates, will not be tolerated. A player caught and proven to be a thief will be dismissed from the team.
15. When an athlete quits a team, he/she will not be allowed to participate on another team until the season is completed. If an athlete has a history of dropping off from AISC teams the AD will evaluate the eligibility of the athlete.
16. Sharing Athletes - We are committed to a range of sports activities for every athlete who has the time and desire to play them, and we are opposed to recommendations that athletes restrict participation to a single sport (all year). For example, playing soccer all year.
17. Physical Examination - All players must have a physical examination (doctor approved by AISC) within 6 months from the beginning of the academic school year.
NOTE: The AD & Administration have the discretion to make any changes to the above mentioned policies.
